It's not necessary to burn the
Mona Lisa
for freedom.
Hmmm…
"Free me"
by Uriah Heep came into my mind.
But that's a stupid song.
So, a
Weekend Special
with translation.
Ougenweide - Lützows wilde verwegene Jagd - Lützow's Wild Bold Hunt
Ougenweide = Nether German for Augenweide = Eye Meadow means Eye Candy
Lützows Wilde Verwegene Jagd (1813)
Was glänzt dort vom Walde im Sonnenschein?
was schlagen die Schwerter zusammen!
What glistens there from the forest in the sunshine?
Hear it roars nearer and nearer!
It comes down in dark rows
and shrill horns sound in it,
fill the soul with horror.
And if you ask the black fellows:
That is Lützow's wild bold hunt!
That is Lützow's wild bold hunt!
What moves quickly there through the sinister forest
and scours from mountains to mountains?
It lays down for a night ambush,
the Hurrah rejoices and the gun bangs!
The frankish henchers fall.
(Frenchies)
And if you ask the black hunters:
That is Lützow's wild bold hunt!
That is Lützow's wild bold hunt!
What blusters there in the valley the loud battle,
what do the swords strike one another!
Wild-hearted riders fight the battle,
the spark of freedom has awakened glowingly
and blazes in bloody flames.
And if you ask the black riders:
(originally fighters-not riders)
That is Lützow's wild bold hunt!
That is Lützow's wild bold hunt!
The wild hunt and the german hunt,
upon hangmen’s blood and tyrants!
Therefore, those who love us, no weeping and moaning.
For the land is free and the morning dawns,
even if we only won this by dying.
From grandchildren to grandchildren let it be said:
That was Lützow's wild bold hunt!
That was Lützow's wild bold hunt!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lützow's_Wild_Hunt_(poem)
I changed the English translation at some points.
Some was simply wrong.
E.g.
"Schergen"
means henchers (not bloodhounds).
Some had a wrong 'sound' and some adaptions to current spelling rules.
P.S.
Do you know how to put the translation beside and not unter it?
Without producing a JPG or the like.
