Taxi Driver and especially The King of Comedy were not instant classics like this movie tries to be. I love this generation of the Instant Classic movie. 9.2 before it's even in theaters. Oscar buzz before it's even in theaters. Endless comparisons to two movies that took years to gain a cult following and to become considered classics. Taxi Driver was a controversial cult flick while King of Comedy was, for years, considered just an okay Scorsese/DeNiro until people opened their eyes, or their ears when DeNiro's laugh became a popular soundbyte. But it's just funny how anything based on a Comic Book becomes the greatest film of all time… when it's still in script form.
