I'm not sure what point you are trying to make.
There is no difference between the use in American or British English. The modern usage is understood to mean an animation. That is exactly as true whether you are British or American.

Id consider myself a realist, alright? But in philosophical terms Im whats called a pessimist. I think human consciousness is a tragic misstep in evolution. We became too self-aware.
