I hated HR from the very beginning. I wish Earth 2 stayed on the show because he really grew as a character, had some depth to him and was fully embraced as a member of the team. My only guess is that the actress who plays Jessie didn't want to sign on as a full-time cast member and it made no sense to have Harry without Jessie so they wrote them both off.

He still has some way to go before he becomes equally useless.

I think the various Harrisons are better than the unkillable Mr. Merlyn. In Arrow, every episode they thought about killing him, Oliver would launch into a lengthy monolog about how he couldn't kill him because of Thea, or how it wouldn't be right, or something like that. It got really annoying. And when he was leader of the League of Assasins, it looked like he might be interesting, but then the league got shut down and he became irrelevant.
Wow I didn't realize how much that bugged me.
HR is fresh and interesting, and Tom Cavanagh is an incredible actor. It's worth it to have him in every episode just for him.

No, Malcolm actually derailed Arrow's storytelling because they had to come up with ridiculous reasons why Oliver doesn't just kill him. HR is not as useful as past Wells' but he does provide humor and does provide some help.

I love HR. Its heck of a lot better to be useless and different than another redundant boring scientist in a lab of scientists. HR is interesting funny and has personality. He's not a scientist but he brings something to team that's not repititve like Julian
