This is part of the problem. Yea WB/DC are idiots but let's face it, DC fanboys can be rather overzealous and fussy. I don't blame Affleck for wanting to avoid that kind of pressure;especially after a flop like
Live By Night
.
Whatever you are, be a good one.

There was a little nodding smiley face at the end too, but I don't know how to add that in.
My comment was going off of the assumption that he is one of those "Marvel Vs. DC" people, who thinks anything Marvel does is just and reasonable and anything DC does is garbage.
I don't personally have anything against Peyton Reed, and I enjoyed Ant-Man. But really, it was forgettable, and didn't feel spectacular in the slightest. It felt like someone just came on board to meet a deadline, and that's exactly what it was. It happens.

it's possible, but they'll have to nail an extremely we respected director, like a rumored Matt Reeves. the problem is who would jump into this situation?
but either way it would be disappointing, because we were all saying "well at least we got Ben Affleck's The Batman" and nowwell..that's not happening.

honestly we're going to have to wait and see whether or not WB gets a new director for The Batman soon, to see if they're planning to scrap the JLU or continue. if we get no one officially announced by like March or April it's probably dead after AQ.
now hopefully if they do get a new director it's actually a respectable onenot like a Brett Ratner (who is in bed with WB financing their films) or a f-cking McG.

A small Batman story in a movie that suppose to be in a be in a big universe wold be contained in a bad way, and Dredd was a lot more lower budget than Batman who isn't.
And it would be even more boring if there wasn't much scale to the film, and seeing an Arkham Asylum story I can just replay on my PS3.

The failure of
Live by Night
is definitely a factor in him stepping down. That was a passion project of his, and not only was it not well received, but it's going to lose the studio over 70 million dollars.
Frankly, ole'Benjamin would probably be wise to take a step back, and go back to directing smaller films to rebuild his reputation. Directing a big franchise film is not the best way to go after a big loss like that.

I understand what you're saying, but WB is reshuffling a lot.like
a lot
, a new producer to replace Greg Silverman and basically right then we a string on new films and a flash page 1 re-write.
personally I think his leaving has more to do with WB applying more pressure and changing directions, combined with Live by Night being a bit of an embarrassment.

There's no telling how the film was meant to turn out from the point of view of the story, but given that it was already supposed to be part of a controversial franchise, with Ben himself as both the director, scriptwriter, and the lead, he would've had a lot to juggle, and given how much crap he's had to deal with recently, it doesn't really surprise me that he's stepping down.

not in a budgetary sense, but in a story sense, it would have been very straightforward.
you're right about Live by Night, he was very ambitious, but he tried to condense a novel into two hours and change, with The Batman it would have likely been a smaller story, like Dredd, great sense of Gotham, his villains, Batman himself as well as being contained. this is assuming they went the Arkham route.

Not to be rude, but I don't see a how a Batman movie could possibly be expected to have been small and self-contained. I think it's safe to assume that such a film likely would've been made with a 9 figure budget, but Affleck doesn't seem to be comfortable making those kinds of films. Back in 2010, he turned down the chance to direct MoS because he wasn't comfortable making a huge leap like that.
It really seems like Affleck was too ambitious with
Live by Night
, and directing and starring in a Batman movie would've carried a ton of pressure.
