I have recently watched the BluRay, "Ultimate Edition" of BvS and found it to be a major improvement on the theatrical release. The added footage (30 minutes) makes the film more coherent and helps emphasize the point that the real story is how so many people want to undermine anyone who excels.
I repeatedly found myself regarding Superman as a metaphor for Jesus and thinking about the movie "Jesus Christ Superstar" and Judas' song of the same name in which he asks Jesus:
"Now why'd you choose such a backward time
And such a strange land?
If you'd come today
You could have reached the whole nation"
As a people we often demand that God be perfect, but "BvS" makes the point that "perfect" is not only conditional on our personal point of view, but that we are unwilling even to trust that a God would have our best interests at heart.
