I wouldn't go that far, but I liked them. Two real badasses.

I guess you could retcon them getting crushed by the singularity as some kind of quantum effect throwing the two of them a few years into the future.

No, they were at the center of a singularity though I assume the colonel died on impact before that. Imagine the entire continent of America crushed into the size of a grain of sand, that's what happened to them.
