The Raimi films had Peter be a lovable nerd, who developed a wit to use against his enemies.
The Webb films had Peter be an adolescent douche, whose attitude caused the death of Uncle Ben (and indirectly Gwen Stacy).
This film has Peter be frustrated about being treated like a kid and try to prove himself by doing things alone, but what'd be interesting if if he found himself in over his head and then does his best to keep it together, but then breaks down and asks his friend/aunt/Michelle/Tony/someone for help. (Most likely Tony, looking at them teaming up in the trailer)
It's a kind of maturity to realise that he can't do things alone and can ask for assistance.

It seemed to me that Raimi and co. wanted to make Peter out some sort of saint. Sure, he had harsh words with his uncle right before Ben died, but I don't blame Peter for losing his temper. As far as Ben was concerned, his soft nephew finally decided to stop being being a pussy and stand up for himself. All that "great power=great responsibility" crap was totally unwarranted given that he was talking to a boy who'd probably never even broken a rule in his life. Ben didn't even
know
Peter had "great power". Did your dad talk to you like that, because mine sure as hell didn't. Sure, Peter forgot about decorating the house, but he can be forgiven considering that he just got superpowers. (In

Peter forgot about picking Aunt May up because he was discovering his superpowers, plus he'd gotten himself a job
and
a girlfriend on the same day. I'd say both Peters had mitigating circumstances for neglecting their duties. In Raimi's movie, however, the man who killed Ben ended up dying with Peter being guilt-free about it, which was kind of a cop-out on the part of the movie writers. In the 3rd movie, they even almost completely absolved Peter of any guilt in Ben's death by having some
other
guy turn out to be the actual killer, and even
that
man was only a criminal because he needed the money for his sick kid.

I'm not familiar with the comics, you are right.
Peter did have an argument with Uncle Ben in both films. But the Raimi film had Peter unknowingly let the robber go because he got swindled by the robber's victim. The Webb film had him shirk taking care of Aunt May which his Uncle asked him to do.
Part of Peter being Spider-Man is his guilt at having caused his Uncle's death through selfish means. How selfish should this be for this version of Peter?

I'm guessing you're not familiar with the comics. Peter simply let the robber go, rather than stop the guy, just likean "adolescent douche". In Raimi and Webb's films, he let the robber go because the robb-ee(?) was a prick. In fact, in the early comics, Peter was quite the hothead.

Didn't Raimi's Spider-Man attitude cause the death of uncle Ben and Harry?
Webb's Spider-Man was just as likeabke without the downfall of Spider-Man being too much of a dork like Toby.
