but the fact that he is black has impacted his personality and character on the show, which is what bothers a lot of people.
No, his being black has impacted people's interpretation of the character on the show. He's mentioned being Black once, no more than twice in nearly 30 episodes.

I agree, totally. I mean I started liking the idea of a tall, handsome and confident and suave guy who doesn't wear a dorky bow tie. But these last episodes I am more then ever wish they didn't change him into this. I want the old Jimmy back.

Nothing against the actor who plays Jimmy. He might very attractive looking - oh what a suprise with a sixpack but I also thought he should be white. Specially when there was a rumor who would play Superman. At one point they have wanted Tom Welling back (from "Smallville").
What he should say when he meet Jimmy? - we remember : one of the Ashmore Twin's played Jimmy in "Smallville".
Superman/Clark Kent: "Oh Jimmy what happened to you..? you've changed the skin color"
Jimmy: I was transformed in a superchangebox by a supervillain.
I'm all for keeping things as close to canon as possible, but your argument falls flat because of a simple detail:
This is a different continuity (hell, a different Multiverse) than
Smallville
.
Actually When I watched the Pilot and the first episode I thought: how bad this was made. Winn knows about Kara from the beginn.
For my taste: the rushed by far to fast into this.
An nothing against Calista Flockart. She's a good actress - but while watching - it feels like watching a Calista Flockart Show and NOT Supergirl

Oh, Thank God I am not the only who thinks this, and I like you have said it doesn't have anything with his skin color, he could be green, purple, whatever color and his story is still stupid and unnecessary, he is okay like a background character, maybe he could do something about all the bad publicity the aliens are getting thanks to Cadmus I mean he has Cat position and power, he could do everything for them from behind the desk but nooo, he has to play the hero, overshadowing Supergirl, Alex, Maggie and J'onn. Please scrap the character and making him to Gotham or move back to Metropolis.

I loved the Cosby Show and it depict a positive African-American family. However, it was a comedy in the 80s. Bill Cosby intentionally seeded that show with references to African-American culture. I.E. The focus on jazz, black universities, people the family admired.
However, once you reach a certain economic level in this country, depending on where you live, your world becomes very white. He was a doctor married to a lawyer. Lots of money. There are neightborhoods with lots of rich black people, they are rare.
From what I see of my former students and considering Jame's age and his father's occupation, James does appear to be spot on. Military brats of color are fairly indistinguishable from
Jimmy's best friend is Clark Kent, a prototypical 1950's midwestern white guy.
I don't trust these writers to "Blacken" Jimmy without getting on a soapbox or turning him into a stereotype. Being white in America is not the same as being black, but I Jimmy's life is very similar to a lot of other Blacks that have made it, apparently raised middle class, with a college education. He may listen to rap, but he also loves Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and read Spiderman as a kid.
It's likely a lot of the black kids in his school thought he was trying to act white, o they would not be who he was and a lot of his white schoolmates were flabbergasted that this big black guy would rather take pictures of the mostly white cheerleading squad or the sports contests than participate in them.
I.E. Majority of friends and enemies are white, open to dating women of most races, but finds most of the people in his social circle are white, drawn to an expensive art (photography) that excludes many African-Americans.
It would make a bit more sense to colorize Diggle and they have to an extent as he was in the military and the military is very diverse compared to journalism.
Of course, the writers could careless about putting this must detail into any character's background, too busy planning the next fight.

I disagree completely with you about colorbending vs whitewashing. They are not the same thing at all. One is taking PoC representation away and one is adding some.
Figured you would, as you seem to subscribe to a collectivist ideology that I do not. I see no difference between making T'Challa white or making Olsen black, except for the fact T'Challa's core as a character depends on his race to a huge degree. On principle, however, the two cases are exactly as "problematic" for me.
The white/PoC ratio for major characters in comics is so skewed in the direction of white people that it's seriously not a big deal IMO to colorbend a few characters if it doesn't affect the narrative (for ex- I think the X-Men's White Queen/Emma Frost should probably stay white bc it would seem weird if she weren't given her character, while Nick Fury being black actually makes the character 1000% better to me).
That's because that is how they were created at the time. If you want more PoCs or whatever other minority in, create new characters. Emma would indeed feel out of character if she was anything other than white, blonde, and prissy, but Fury is actually in line with the comics, just the Ultimate version of the character (who later migrated in a way to Earth-616). Also Sam L. Jackson.
White was always the default, so if a few characters can be changed to be more inclusive and it doesn't mess up the narrative, why be stingy?
I'm a canon purist. If canon for a character is being a pink haired bearded transgender black asian viking, then I damn well expect the character to be that way in an adaptation. The only exception being a clear alternate universe, a la DC's Elseworlds, or some of the 52 Earths were everything is different (I believe Earth-23 is the one with all-black heroes).
We agree on Olsen though, his issues go far beyond race. The characterisation is all wrong, and I'd have a lot less of an issue if they at least kept the personality on point.
You're suffering from delusions of adequacy.

There's nothing wrong with keeping the character white, but they didn't. They cast a black guy, so they should write him with that in mind a little bc they bothered to go that way with the casting.
I disagree completely with you about colorbending vs whitewashing. They are not the same thing at all. One is taking PoC representation away and one is adding some. White was always the default, so if a few characters can be changed to be more inclusive and it doesn't mess up the narrative, why be stingy? If you whitewash, it almost always DOES affect the character. The ancient one was basically a different character when he was whitewashed. Luke Cage would be pointless if he were white. Major characters of color in comics were so rare that they usually existed for a specific purpose, to represent social movements.
The same can not be said for every situation when color-bending. What character traits we really losing by having a black Jimmy? None. The problem with Jimmy is his poor characterization, not his color. If he were a dorky black guy with glasses, there would be no difference between this Jimmy and the redheaded Jimmy from the comics. The issue is that this Jimmy is Jimmy in name only. They may as well call him something else, bc he's a totally botched and unrecognizable characterization.

What's wrong with keeping characters with the ethnicity/gender/sexuality they had as created? Olsen being a black guy here is no better than all the messed up casting in
The Last Airbender
, or The Ancient One being a Celt woman in
Doctor Strange
.
..ok, nothing is
that
bad, but you get the idea.
But I suppose it's much easier to use an easily recognisable name, instead of doing some work and create a well written character with the traits you want. It's not as if DC has done this successfully already with Batwoman
You're suffering from delusions of adequacy.

^^ Yup.
He never talks about being black, we never see any of his family, we don't know anything about his interests and how they're influenced by his heritage, and he doesn't drop random AA slang into conversations. Literally anybody of any ethnicity could play this version of Jimmy. There's nothing inherently black (or white) about the way he is written, and if people think that, then they are super-projecting in a big way.
I already said this in another post, but I wish they'd actually bother to write him with more of a nod to his AA culture (and I don't mean 'inner city', bc it's v obvious he's a suburban kid - but growing up like the Huxtables is still part of the black experience), because it would make him more interesting. Colorblind casting is good, but colorblind writing is kind of dull.
