"They keep it so that no one knows I'm Supergirl."
I wonder how many takes it took for the Melissa Benoist to say it with a straight face.

The different hairstyles help a
little
. But, to watch any superhero tv show/movie that needs to be some willing suspension of disbelief.

Not a weird post at all, my friend, and very interesting as far as the hypnosis / comic book thing goes!
I guess if we're supposed to suspend our disbelief as to the whole 'superhero' thing goes, the glasses thing is pretty irrelevant!

In the old comics, Superman had Super-hypnotism as a power.
Not making that up.
So, he subconsciously makes people around him not realize he's Superman. They fixed that in modern times by just making Superman shrink himself and not stand as tall, and act humbling, something you wouldn't think Superman would do, as an average person.
Comics are really weird with how they do that.
As for the scar, well, you know what they say, it's impolite to stare at an injury.
I had Chicken Pox when I was 6 or so, so I'm guessing Melissa had it much later, since it leaves scars very rarely in children.
I am a man with Asperger's Syndrome, so please forgive me if my posting seems weird.

They seem to work in real life as well.

As a readers of the comics, the whole glasses thing seemed a stretch to me. But Tempus here says it best:

The glasses thing I can just about buy, it's worked for decades in the Superman comic books.
What sometimes works in comic books, comes off as really awkward in live action.
Comes off like a parody.

Exactly my point. It was a nod to the silly concept, that we've been laughing at for years. And have seen umpteen spoofs about. One of the best was a Master Thespian skit where the actor didn't recognize his mentor until he took off his crown.
Why don't you say that (whips off crown) to my face!

The glasses thing I can just about buy, it's worked for decades in the Superman comic books.
What I struggle with is that nobody notices that both Supergirl and Kara have the exact same scar on their forehead
