This scene would have worked so much better if it was better edited.
For instance: when Bruce hears Superman say "Save Martha", instead of some simple flashbacks, they really could have made it haunting and dark similar to Bruce's first nightmare with the ManBat.
They could have replaced Superman on the ground with Bruce's mother and then Bruce is replaced with his parents' killer. This will give the audience an idea that the reason that Bruce decides to stop trying to kill Superman isn't JUST because each have the same mother's name but because Bruce realizes that he has become just like his parents' killer.
Like Alfred in an earlier scene said to Bruce about Superman: "But he is not our enemy!" and "That's how it starts the fever, the rage which turns once good men, cruel".
Dialogue like this could be edited in this Martha revelation scene so we as the audience get a better sense on what Bruce is thinking and feeling and we then fully understand WHY he decides to throw the spear down.

definitely something along those lines would have been better.
Zack Snyder has such good ideas, but then turns them into rubbish.

Rewrite the entire scene and come up with a better reason for them to team up. Or just scrap the script and start over.

That seems to over dramatic and on the nose. I know Snyder has a problem with not holding the hands of his audience, but what you described is too much hand holding.

Superman could have just said "Please save my mother". Or "Luthor is going to kill my mother". That would have made so much more sense.

There are so many plot-holes in this cinematic colon spew. Wider than Darkseid's butthole.
Batman ignores 18 months of news reports on Superman saving people and Clark is 35 but apparently never heard of a guy with a gigundo Bat Signal who beats on day glo criminals for 20 freaking years.

I can't believe they left this scene in the film. It is so bad. I mean really bad. If that is DC's writing and film making thought process then no wonder all their films are below par.

yeah that would be spoon feeding to the nth degree. that was obviously the intent from how they portrayed it.

Actually not really.
How does it feel to be deconstructed?

The idea was a fundementally retarded idea in a film with fundementally horrid story structure
