You have no idea what's "right up my alley", actually. But tell me: where is the character development in this show? Barry continually repeats the same mistakes, Wally continually whines about not being a speedster, and Caitlin continually whines about having lost the love of her lifeoften to the man she's falling in love with.
When a show has a narrative that runs in place, where the characters go through the same relationship arcs over and over without learning anything, where there is no real character development or growth, you have a soap opera. And you have "The Flash".

Most stories nevermind shows are about relationships. Some relationships are familial, some professional, some romantic, and others are antagonistic. I have relationships with dozens of people, doesn't mean my life is a soap opera or like a soap opera.
If Iris was pregnant in Season 1 and didn't know if Eddie or Barry was the father, then I'd agree we were watching a soap opera. If Linda comes back and Barry and Wally fight for her love and Joe is torn between his two sons between then we have a soap opera.
This show has aspects of a soap opera, all stories do. Joe had a son he never knew about. However, the issue was resolved in about three episodes.
If you want a non-"soap-opera" superhero show. There is always the Spider-man series. Pete fighting bad guys with zero character development of the cast every week. Sounds right up your alley.

No, it's become "One Tree Hill" or "Party of Five"or any other teen/20-something soap opera. The show just happens to be set in a comic book universe.
