I liked everything about Curtis' costume. except for the seemingly out of place blackface.

There is no Curtis Holt in the comics.

Is it that she's a hawt chick and he's an unforgivable guy, maybe that she's not married and he is, or is it her heteroness vs his gayness? Maybe a little of both? Something else?
When the show started it was cute, many viewers are over Felicity now because her character has went downhill.
But as to why it's considered obnoxious when Curtis does it, we'll that's easy, we've already seen it once and don't really need to see it again. Personally I don't Curtis at all, but repeating the same thing again is sort of obnoxious

I was unfamiliar with how the character looked in the comics until I just searched for images of him.
When I saw Curtis in full costume onscreen last night, I thought they were paying tribute to guest star Cody Runnels's wrestling career by painting Curtis's face in a manner reminiscent of Stardust.

He never said he beat Batman, he had Batman's respect. Curtis bares little resemblance to Michael. Michael is calm, collected, heterosexual, and competent. Curtis may be a competent fighter one day, but he'll always be Felicity with a 'fro.
