Review from Thomas Drufke
But it was Ragman that really turned me off. We had just finished a season where the concept of magic invaded what was a pretty grounded show considering the other CW shows it shares a universe with. Damien Darhk was cool for a bit, but it got old watching a man with a bow and arrow fight who was basically an immortal god. I thought we were done with magic or people with meta-human like powers. I won't pretend to understand exactly what Ragman's powers are as of yet, but I just can't get excited for that on this show again. 'Legacy' was a brilliant episode that brought the show back to its grounded roots, this episode seemed to take a step in the wrong direction
Totally agree

But at the same time, I also understand that as the Arrow team gets bigger it makes them more dangerous. In order to get that feeling of overcoming odds, our heroes need to be threatened. We need to feel an urgency that they could possibly lose. As big as the Arrow team has gotten, not sure how many non-meta/magic villains out there could be as big of threats.
Nice point, and it makes sense

I agreejust not completely.
I do like the "Street Level" feel of the first couple seasons. No people with powers, just well-trained and lots of gadgets and tech.
This is honestly what made Luke Cage such a boring show. He was never in any danger from the villains. Thus the villains came across pretty pathetic.
At the same time, I don't want them to get too far into the magic as they did last seasons, so I hope they keep it at a minimum. Not sure what they are doing with Ragman yet, but I'm willing to give it a shot.
I'm so hip I have trouble seeing over my pelvis.

I don't agree with that.
-Ragman totally worked for this episode. It didn't take anything away from the grounded nature of Arrow. In fact that was the best part of the episode.
-The problem is not using magic or metas. But the way they are used.

I agree. Batman is a very grounded superhero with no superpowers but a lot of his most famous supervillains like Poison Ivy, Clayface, Killer Croc, Man Bat, Bane, Solomon Grundy etc have superpowers and are supernatural characters.
Prometheus could easily have the super-strength he has in the comic books and put the steel armour and helmet on near the end of the season and it could work.

magic can't be ignored neither can meta. You can still have a grounded world with occasional power villain
yes, that way will be better

Magic and meta was not the problem, the problem was the produceres were focusing on other shows and not Arrow

Keep away from magic, yes. Its too powerful & there aren't any rules. But metas generally only have 'one' power and can be dealt with by team Arrow.
I understand, thanks!

They can't just ignore there are metas in their universe before, and team Arrow fought them long before Damian Darhk ever came into the mix.
Arrow is a comic book show, and its established there are metas in their collective universes. Ignoring they exist would be a disservice and 'bad writing' as people keep saying Arrow is capable of doing.
Keep away from magic, yes. Its too powerful & there aren't any rules. But metas generally only have 'one' power and can be dealt with by team Arrow.
The unexpected is the new cliche ~
