They are shooting gorier scenes

It looks like he really went westward but not for any reshoots.
He has gotten back to NYC for SHOWMAN rehearsals.

Hugh is still out there he just posted this early Friday morning photo.

The reshoots ( if my hunch is right) are happening while Mangold is still likely in the EDIT suite ( they wrapped filming only 2 months ago), so it is likely his call. Reshoots which raise doubts about the movie quality usually happen much later in the project timetables i.e., when the film has practically been completed and maybe trailers have already been released ( sometimes accompanied by a postponement of release date not happening here because the first poster already indicated the planned release date). I also doubt that Hugh would openly share images that could suggest reshoots if he thinks they could detract from positive expectations.
Also, the issue of "scrubbing" the movie to ensure a milder rating is not the issue here FOX has been quite open about the intended or predicted R rating.
Of course I am just guessing here

Some people like to spread FUD when reshoots happen. But the idea of Fox potentially letting a director do reshoots if needed kinda makes me happy. It shows me that they really care about the film that they put out. Fox has a history of executive's sticking their hands into projects and not letting the director achieve their vision for a film.
With that said, maybe Hugh's facial hair has a healing factor of it's own?
