there seems to have been a huge promotional campaign for this series. but i'm curious of the metrics or stats Netflix uses to gauge success for their shows. i wonder how this stacks up with DD or JJ? or compared to House of Cards and Orange is the New Black?

Shouldnt be too hard. They can track how many views it has. How many minutes of each show are watched. Heck they could even see how many episodes hve been skipped on the rewatch. Theoretically this could revolutionize tv as they can see exactly what the masses are watching and not watching and exact parts where people get sick of something. They can apply that to new shows coming down the pipeline too.

I sub into HBO once a year for Game of Thrones. Use to sub showtime for Homeland. So whenever a huge show like GoT hits Netflix for the first time I am sure theyll get more of that. Not that they arent already getting huge amounts of resubs for certain shows.

Only Netfliz executives know what they are looking for but from the small amount knowledge I retained from marketing class
Luke Cage would be considered under the umbrella Marvel along with Daredevil, Jessica, Iron Fist and others TBA. So Netflix doesn't necessarily expect or require Luke Cage to out draw but rather to bring in new viewers.
Daredevil fan watching Luke Cage is wonderful but so what? You already had them.
But if some of the 18 million people that watch Empire of Fox sign up to watch Luke Cage now Netflix executives are throwing a party.

They can easily track views. They just don't have a need to share them. They're subscription based, not ad based.

Their measurements are a secret. But 1 key factor is to gauge a program globally and not just in the USA.
The reason why Adam Sandler got 4 movies is because he is super popular in many parts of the world.

I'm not sure but I would think Netflix has better ways than networks on determine who watches. Surely there is something that allows them to detect who watches.
