I love Superman and I really think his noble intentions should be pursued. But what he doesn't get, is how this world works. He believes in justice. But who says what's just? According to him, the law does. Who creates the law? The goverment. Who elects the government? The people. And the people loved The Elite.
He requested The Elite to give up and be trialed for their deeds. Let's say they would comply. What would happen is that they would be arrested. The British goverment would instantly pull strings and have them freed and all the records of their crimes destroyed. The USA would surely comply, since the government is under high pressure from the people.
By taking on The Elite, Superman ironically does exactly what the the people do not want, e.g. the government does not want, so he imposes his own justice on planet earth.
However, nobody was killed and he does so much good he has to be forgiven.
