I also decided to give the DVD away after the shopping trip. This movie was marketed more towards girls. It was a stereotypical teen age girls dream. No parents, in the big city with a cousin that really can not tell you what to do. Then it sorta got strange with the Amazon parts. You add all these parts together and this was a more "girl empowerment" movie than anything and from the look of graphics if you compare "Under the Red Hood" to this piece of flop, you can see that the creators didn't really put much into this.
When did Batman turn into Mortica Adams? I thought the "rooted" look was goofy or silly at best.
There is nothing wrong with targeting a film towards young girls but do not try to market it as something it was not with the guess or belief that some of the disappointed boys will leave this dvd in their sister rooms.

Depending on how you look at it the film should've been called Superman with Friends vs. Darkseid. Or Superman/Supergirl: Darkseid. Or even Superman/Batman/Wonder Woman: Evil Supergirl. But Superman/Batman: Apocalypse as a title was kinda deceiving.

I agree in regards to the title. Its not honest. I would have still have watched it if it had been, "Supergirl: Year One" or "Superman meets Supergirl". Either or would have been fine with me.

I saw nothing wrong with giving her a 'typical teen' mindset. i don't know what 'age' they're giving Kara here, but when you were, say, 14-17, were you concerned with getting a job, paying bills, being 'responsible', or did you want to play video games, go to the mall, eat cheeseburgers, and chase girls??

+1
I found the portrayal of Supergirl horrifyingly outdated and sexist. As if being an Earth girl simply equals shopping for clothes, shoes and getting your nails painted. It was cringe-worthy, and then the " and I broke a nail!" line towards the end - it screams of male writers thinking "oh, girl stuff, yeah, this will appeal to girls!" but it so obviously doesn't, it's so condescending I could hardly believe my ears.
and Wonder Woman was awesome, her 2009 movie was great, too.

As opposed to the countless boy empowerment stories put out by the comic industry? God forbid a female fan should be provided with a female superhero to look up to or identify with. How many male heroes do I watch and enjoy? Almost all of them. Why is it an absurd idea that a boy might be able to the same with a female hero, rather than leaving the DVD in their sister's room?
Well said! This has to be one of the best things I've read on IMDB in a long time and so very true. Why shouldn't boys have the maturity to enjoy films with a lead female character when girls have enjoyed films with male leads for years?
I am a female and found nothing about Supergirl appealing in the least. (I was kind of impressed by Wonder Woman here, though, who I never much cared for before.) I actually felt the urge to rip the DVD out of my player and return it the second Superman defined Earth girls by nothing more than shopping and stuffing our faces with crap.
Again, I agree with this. I loved Wonder Woman but Supergirl was pathetic. The Japanese have a better handle on animated female lead characters. Although I suppose, in some ways, you can see it as a sad indictment of society that an alien girl probably would come to Earth and assume that a large part of being a 'typical' human teenage girl is to be an airhead obsessed with shopping and junk food. I'm just glad the Amazons were not pathetic as her.

First of all, why do you make it sound like a girl empowerment story is a negative thing? As opposed to the countless boy empowerment stories put out by the comic industry? God forbid a female fan should be provided with a female superhero to look up to or identify with. How many male heroes do I watch and enjoy? Almost all of them. Why is it an absurd idea that a boy might be able to the same with a female hero, rather than leaving the DVD in their sister's room? But beyond that, I have to say it is NOT a girl empowerment story beyond the superficial fact that it showcases a female superhero. Obviously it was written by somebody who THINKS they know how to communicate with a female audience (something they were blatantly attempting to do), but in reality just insulted the beep out of them.
But lmao @ your Morticia Adams comment. I thought the exact same thing, and I found it very hard to take Batman seriously after that. It's a shame, too, since he is my favorite. I can understand what they were attempting to do with the design, but it just doesn't work.

No it was. But that's how the comic went.
Supergirl isn't as marketable as Batman/Superman.
Supergirl had more lines than any of the characters.
Still a good movie though.

It had
Superman/Batman
in the title because this is adapted from the second major story-arc in the
ongoing comic. Visually, the film based its "look" on the art-style of the late Michael Turner, who drew the original story.
