OK, there's plenty of threads where people just put the segments in the order that they liked them, but that is kinda boring IMO. In this thread let's put a couple of sentences saying what we liked/didn't like about them. My order (from best to worst) goes:

Deadshot.
Finds a very good balance between action and story, and also gives Bruce a little time to brood. The setup is well done, we have a solid story that doesn't take a lot of developing but doesn't feel rushed. This segment really feels like the only one that could work as a separate film. The action scenes are really cool, and Batman looks maybe the best he does in the whole film (tied with Crossfire here). A solid 9/10.

Working Through Pain.
Definately the 'character development' section, with a semi tragic ending illustating Bruce's inability to move on from his parent's death. Not much action at all (and what we do get to see involves Bruce, not Batman), but I don't mind that as like I said this is all about character development. I also like that is shows us more of what Bruce got up to on his travels. 9/10.

Field Test.
Good story with a quick, easy setup and a satisfying finale. Feels like an entire Animated Series episode condensed into 12 or so minutes. The animation in this one though is easily the worst of the film, with Batman looking like a bird and Bruce Wayne looking like a skinny teenager. The action scenes are servicable but nothing spectacular, but we are given some nice scenes with Bruce and Lucious Fox to make up for that. Also, the best quote of the whole film is in this segment. "I'm willing to put my life on the line to do what I have to. But it has to be mine, no one else's." 7/10.

Crossfire.
Batman takes a backset in this segment, with it mainly being about character development between Ramirez and Allen, and that is fine with me. Nicely sets up Gotham PD's trust/distrust relationship with Batman and that is an important part of the mythos. Probably the best action scenes of the film, with some very imaginative shots, and Batman looks cool as fucI<. The lack of any real story and the fact that Gordon seems like a bit too much of a d!ck are what hinder this segment. 7/10.

Have I Got A Story For You.
It's a nice idea to have all of these kids with their own interpretation of 'The Batman', but do they have to be so annoying? Everything that comes out of their mouths is like having my ears raped. This segment has some very interesting ideas and I really like the idea of different peoples versions of what Batman looks like. It looks OK, the action is good (but not better than that) and it is well paced, there is nothing overly 'wrong' with this segment, apart from the damn dialouge! I just try to look (or hear?) past it and concentrate on what is a pretty good story. However, it is there and pulls this segment down to a 5/10.

In Darkness Dwells.
A very good idea gone wrong because the action scenes are so poorly executed. The story is paper thin and only really serves to set us up for and extended action scene in the second half of the segment, but then the action is such a letdown that you just end up sitting there bored for the most part. The positives I can take from this are that it shows up what Crane's been up to since the end of Begins, and that opening shot is absolutely fucI
All in all as you can tell I enjoy Gotham Knight for the most part. It is a very interesting concept that succeeds on many levels, and fails horribly on others. I would say that overall this film deserves 7/10 and is a worthy part of the animated Batman legacy. One other point I would like to make is that the score is very good and the themes it uses are exciting, tragic, epic and personal; everything a Batman score should be.
I'm just a bloody normal bloke. A normal bloke who likes a bit of torture.

I totally agree with your ratings and rankings, ChristopherNolanFan.
Although I didn't hate Crossfire. It was incredibly moody and I loved the way the visuals were done. I love seeing Batman through the eyes of the citizens and cops as shown in these first two shorts.
As for Deadshot, I was very mildly disappointed because I thought that this would be the action epic of the set but then Dead Shot didn't put up much of a fight. He justs takes a knock to the chin and thats that. An extra minute to 30 seconds of a little punching and blocking would have done wonders for me. It might have moved Deadshot from my second favorite, behind Working Through Pain, to my number one.
Still got my fingers crossed, waiting for Judas Contract to get green-lit

Have I got a story for you:
Pros: I liked the story. I liked the animation for the shadowy Batman and the ManBat-like Batman.
Cons: I despise those kids' voices. Terribly annoying. And I also did not like how Batman was drawn at the end.
Crossfire:
Pros: The shot of Batman walking through fire- amazing!!! Plus, it was interesting to hear how the two cops viewed Batman.
Cons: Can't think of any.
Field Test:
Pros: Great story. When I first saw the bullet-deflecting device, I thought, "That is definitely going to be a useful gadget. Why would anyone not keep it?" But there was a very satifying conclusion, with his line about his life being on the line.
Cons: The animation. Bruce looked like a teenager. Didn't like how Batman looked either, but still, the pros outweigh the cons.
In Darkness Dwells:
Pros: Scarecrow was great. The animation was beautiful. Liked the line "I work through pain" also being the title of the next episode. Also liked the small conversation between Batman and those people living underground.
Cons: Fight with Croc was way too short.
Working through pain:
Pros: Wow. A philosophical and thoughtful episode. I can never reject those kind of episodes.
Cons: Can't think of any.
Deadshot:
Pros: Great story. IMO, this episode has the best character designs.
Cons: Deadshot begged for his life?

Have I Got a Story
I like the concept and story of the segment. Each portraying Batman in a different point of view, a great in spirit not only to this Anthology but to Batman through the ages. Every artist after Kane has brought something great and unique to Batman's universe.
I don't like the art though, it's really ugly. The general cinematography is rather choppy and bouncy, (but there are some really cool POV shots) and the mix of live action handy-cam looking footage. I don't like when Anime's do that in general.
story: 8/10
art: 4/10
Crossfire:
Really nice Ink and Paint and color pallet but the general artwork is pretty mundane and makes me feel like they were trying to imitate American animation. But the story is really well done.
story: 10
art: 7/10
Field Test:
Being an anime Fan, I already have a heavy bias for the studio that did Field Test. Maybe not the greatest story wise of all of them, but the director knew this being the third act he let things go calm and easy. The art I love as it looks a little more like the traditional anime style more or less as well as the color pallet being so vibrant. Bruce yeah looks Bishie but heck if Christian Bale was an anime character, I think this would be it.
story: 7/10
art: 10
Working Through Pain:
From what I remember vaguely it was a really well done story.
10/10
Dead Shot:
Action packed and slambaning the best chapter of them!
Anime is Forever

Working Through Pain

10/10
Is it really necessary to say anything about this? It is perfect in every way; so philosophical. It deals with all themes in life; change, journeys, belonging etc and shows a side of Bruce Wayne that I love. The flashbacks work so effectively and I get shivers every time I watch it.
"Then why don't you leave?"
"Because, this is where I belong. In your life, isn't there such a place?"
Definitely the best line in the whole movie, in my opinion.

9/10
Great story, action works effectively and the ending is amazing, shivers once again.
"It was just like that night in the alley, Alfred. The closeness of the wallsthe gunfire."
And I love how after that we see:
"All my life, I've been trying to stop those two bullets; I'm living a child's dream. Sometimes, I think I should just be done with it."
"Perhaps, Master Wayne. But something tells me you're doing it for a deeper purpose."
(Batman looks out over Gotham, close-up of Bat-symbol in the night sky)

It was great to see Fox in this, I think the story flows well and the animation is amazing. Not much to say, but it is incredible and the true character of Batman is captured; especially in the line you mentioned:
"I'm willing to put my life on the line to do what I have to. But it has to be mine, no one else's."

7.5/10
What I like most about this segment is the absolutely gorgeous animation, particulary when Batman begins hallucinating due to Scarecrow's hallucinogen. The plot is also simple but strong and if I remember correctly, sets us up for
Working Through Pain
simply with the line:
"I work through pain."

Have I Got a Story for You

7/10
I'm very surprised at the amount of people that disliked this segment. I felt it was a great opening to see the way in which different child Gothamites invision Batman although it is palpable that none of them have previously seen him. Just a nice little skit, quite humorous at times which sets up a philosophical and intriguing film.

Crossfire

5/10
This is the only segment in
Batman: Gotham Knight
that I dislike. There is no real plot, not much point in what is going on, non-sensical action, and although I agree Batman looks cool that just isn't enough for me. A very poorly done segment which would have been acceptable had it been related to the Burton/Schumacher franchise, however, since it is connecting two Nolan films it is atrocious.
Overall, 8/10. An excellent film and a must-see for all fans of Nolan's two Batman films;
Batman Begins
and
The Dark Knight
.
Introduce a little anarchy, upset the established order, and everything becomeschaos.
