I think it is entirely possible. Didn't Michael have some form of cancer? Was it operable, treated successfully or not?

It wouldn't surprise me at all. This man is still alive and kicking after so many health problems. I wish him well!
Too bad his stint at the Oscars was so embarrassingactually the entire moment including Melissa Leo's speech was embarrassing.

But to outlive a son who could also possibly die as an 'old' man is impressive
Some examples include:
Zsa Zsa Gabor outlived her daughter Francesca by at least almost 2 years. Francesca died at the very beginning of 2015 aged 67. Zsa Zsa is 99.
Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer outlived his daughter by six months. His daughter Anna Maria died aged 82 in June 2012, while Oscar died aged 104 in December of the same year.
Mexican actresses Thalia (b. 1971) and Laura Zapata (b. 1956) lost their mother Yolanda in 2011 aged 76. Their grandmother Eva is still alive as of 2016, aged 98.

I would be well pissed if I died at 70 from "old age".

I don't think that really counts, seeing as Eric Douglas didn't die from old age/natural causes. Many people die from different things every day, whose parents are still alive. But to outlive a son who could also possibly die as an 'old' man is impressive (he's going on 70 which I would consider as old - I believe once you hit 70 that you can die possibly at any time).

In 1999 eric douglas was hospitilised after overdosing on drugs and prescription pills, and was left with a limp and a speech slur after that. But he pulled through and people thought 'oh, he's going to be okay' - and look what happened to Eric! So you never know!

so it is a safe bet! But then again, Beau Bridges outlived Eric Douglas which just proves the world is crazy!
