I know what you mean. During interviews, after being asked a question, he'd say, "I can give you the smart answer, or the honest answer", or make excuses of a tall tale by saying "I tried to pretend I knew Italian, and I misrepresented what I said".

It's really hard to tell when Welles was telling a tall tale, so I just sit back and enjoy the ride whilst keeping the possibility in the back of my head that he's not being completely truthful.

I think he's more interesting than his movies.. I do remember him talking about "Make Way For Tomorrow", which is a fine film. He loved the part where they were joyriding, thinking the car salesman was caring (probably as a result of feeling neglected by their children).

There are some sections where it’s not great but I downloaded it as an MP3 and listened to it while travelling. I just love his voice.

I did many years ago but would like to revisit it after I've seen hundreds of movie since.
I remember the audio is sometimes difficult to hear. I should try to look for a transcript.
