Honestly if her tour de force performance in House of Sand and Fog wasn't Oscar worthy I don't know what is. What's worse, she wasn't even nominated! I really can't get over that. Does Academy have something against her or what?

Shelter is by far my most favorite performance from her. You're so enthralled in the world of her character, who is like a little beautiful pure creature turned tortured and hardened from the her new life on the streets. And Anthony Mackie, equally profound character and performance
Great movie and Jennifer amazing on the role

Shelter is by far my most favorite performance from her. You're so enthralled in the world of her character, who is like a beautiful frail creature of pure heart tortured and hardened by her new life on the 5b4streets. And Anthony Mackie, equally profound character and performance

Who gives a crap about those stupid awards? They're all meaningless. It's just Hollywood politics.

"Tour de force" is cliche at this point. Every Oscar season, the writers and critics say "so and so's performance was a tour de force, tour de force, tour de force, tour de force." It's overused, means nothing now.

Jennifer Connelly is my favorite actress but I do agree that in some of her movies she looks like she's acting. For me, the actresses who are very natural in the environment where they work are:
Julia Ormond
Julianne Moore
Kate Winslet
Natalie Portman
Hilary Swank
(several more, can't think of everyone right now)
However, Jennifer was AMAZING in the House of Sand and Fog. She really stepped up her game in that film. She should have been nominated.

If you read my post, I stated that it was her behavior AFTER she won the Oscar. I didn't say they had it out for her but she did ruffle some feathers.

Not sure how the Academy can "have it out for her" when she won an Oscar while still fairly young. Many accomplished actors (Peter5b4 O'Toole comes to mind) never in their entire lives win a competitive Oscar.
The bad news is you have houseguests. There is no good news.

I don't know about her behaviour because I wasn't old enough to be aware, but the acting is debatable, as with most artists. I like her acting even if I still can't compare her to an actress like Julianne Moore.

She burned a lot of bridges with her behavior after winning the Oscar. She refused interviews after the show, with the exception of the one with the group of reporters backstage, during her speech she seemed very pretentious and nobody wanted to see her get up there again and give another boring silly speech. Now, you have to remember she wasn't nominated for a Golden Globe or SAG for House of Sand and Fog. She was good but the actress who played Kingsley's wife overshadowed her. She deserved her nomination, not Connelly.
Connelly reminds me of Natalie Wood in the sense that she looks like she is acting. She isn't natural like Julianne Moore or, someone who is vastly underrated, Mary Stuart Masterson.
