It seems to me that her parents were a bit nutty themselves. Her dad was a closet gay, and I'm assuming he wouldn't accept the fact he was gay because he was so religious, so that was probably the reason he would rape her, whether he liked women/girls at all or not. You're confusing responsibility with liability. To quote Freud, "A neurotic repeats a behavior without remembering." Not remembering certain bad events that shaped you is a liability in the sense that you might repeat destructive patterns of behavior without even knowing it.
