The ending of the movie is better. That isn't the case for Cujo, though. The ending of that book is bleaker, but also more effective.

Yeah, it's the same basic premise with the biggest difference being a single car being possessed by it's previous owner vs. all vehicles becoming sentient. "Trucks" (the short story) actually predates Christine by about a decade. As for the movies, Christine is my least-favorite John Carpenter film of the '80s but I still like it and Maximum Overdrive finds King (as screenwriter and, inexplicably, as a director) at the very peak of his coke era Only surpassed in terms of sheer weirdness by

I've read everything by him, even the one that is banned and goes for hundreds of dollars on eBay. Except the nonfiction Red Sox book. Couldn't finish that one.
I suppose I'd ask him to consider finally including some of his early short stories in a proper book. Particularly "Weeds" and "The Crate," both of which he incorporated into his
Creepshow
screenplay, even taking the lead role in the former.
