TRIGGER WARNING: POTENTIAL DIFFERENCE OF OPINION
He's good at performances where he's supposed to be crazy and over-the-top, because that's all he's good at. When he tries to play more serious and dramatic roles, he completely fails, and just looks goofy and cartoonish.

it's not just that the movies where he doesn't do his thing are good. HIS THING is liken to James Cagney and Bogart and all the legends, and he is a legend.
really though, it's the great movies that make great actors, and he's been in plenty.

Well NO Jack was awesome in the 1970's Ironweed and a few others after The Shining were good. It's the movies that sucked. He picked a lot of ones I would only watch if I had and that's if I had a Jack marathon.
