Don't know why, but this board has never been particularly lively despite there being a lot of Altman fans on these forums. Probably the most activity this board got was right after he died when the trolls were coming out of the wood work.

I recommend Nashville. I saw it today for the first time and it was excellent. I rated it a 10.

I'm surprised by all the hate he seems to be getting recently. I've only seen two of his films (3 Women and Brewster McCloud) and I thought they were excellent! The rest of his films don't look too bad; I'm especially interested in Thieves Like Us.

Yeah it has seemed at one time or another that theres more talk about Altman on the Kubrick board than here on the Altman board Bit of a mystery to me, too, as Ive found that he wasnt even that awfully inconsistent as the myth seems to have it. He had his stinkers, but the amount of crap is quite small, considering the number of the films he made; for instance, Ive found all his post-Short Cuts 1990s stuff - Kansas City, Gingerbread Man, Cookies Fortune - to be solid and interesting, if not amazing.

His eyes, soul, the lens of his films ask that question.

Yeah it is a real, real shame. It just goes to show that Altman truly is the most underrated of his contemporaries and it appears history is not being kind to him
