After the failure of her last two movies perhaps it's time for her to move into TV with her husband behind shows like sleepy hollow and the newest tv idea he has pitched successfully it's time for her to try her hand at tv I think she would make a great tv cop/ villain / vampire slayer

Were her last two shows meant to be blockbusters? She's now in The Disappointments Room, and will be seen in the latest Underworld film, and you're declaring her a loser?

Yeah. Wrinkles are now appearing on her face. She won't be as sexy as she was in Underworld (2003)
Anyway, a belated

thank you. tom cruise has never had a legit flop.
which is impressive considering all of his films with the exception of mission impossible are original pieces without a built in fan base not sequels, not based on comic books or young adult novels etc
oblivion and edge of tomorrow specifically actually did quite well considering they are an old style hollywood star type vehicle in a climate where the franchise tends to matter more than the star.

Jack Reacher earned $218m on a $60m budget and has a sequel in the works.
Oblivion earned $286m worldwide on a $120m budget. Still reasonable.
Edge of Tomorrow took home $369m worldwide on a $175m budget and is Cruise's third-biggest global grosser that isnt a Mission: Impossible movie, behind War of the Worlds and The Last Samurai. While Warner Bros. was hoping for bigger box office numbers, it's their own fault for a failed marketing campaign. However, it has now reached cult status thanks to places like reddi2000t and is reaping the Blu-ray sales. A sequel for it is also on the cards. Bombs don't get sequels.
None of those movies bombed in the conventional sense. I believe the word you're looking for is 'underperformed', an entirely different thing. In fact, under the circumstances, they did quite decently considering the climate in which they were released. You just can't expect one man to helm the highest grossing movie of all time every time he releases a film. Not every release is expected to reach Marvel numbers or be the next Avatar.
His only outright flop of the last 30 years is Rock of Ages, except that's an ensemble cast in which he's in a supporting role.

Why do you keep calling movies "features" it's really annoying.

fgadmin

Reply to Film career over it's time to move to TV on Tue, 14 Apr 2026 17:01:48 GMT

petermiller1988 — 12 years ago(February 08, 2014 03:53 AM)

If she could find the right vehicle, it could be a wise career decision. It seems that feature-wise she is struggling whether it is because of bad choices/advisors/representation or just bad luck, I don't know, what I DO know that especially in recent years a lot of remarkable actresses turned succesfully to TV after struggling for years to find worthy projects and roles in features. Just look at Diane Kruger (The Bridge), Kerry Washington (Scandal), Taylor Schilling (Orange is the New Black), Robin Wright (House of Cards), Claire Danes (Homeland), Glenn Close (Damages), Madeline Stowe (Revenge), Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer), Piper Perabo (Covert Affairs), Anna Paquin (True Blood), January Jones (Mad Men), Rose Byrne (Damages), Sally Field (Brothers & Sisters), Holly Hunter (Saving Grace), Joely Richardson (Nip Tuck), Sela Ward (Once & Again).
All the acclaim TV brought these women, seemed to have great impact on their careers : Kerry Washington was suddenly in a Best Picture nominee (Django Unchained), Glenn Close received her first Oscar nomination in more than two decades, January Jones and Rose Byrne got a bunch of high-profile feature opportunities and since they were on highly acclaimed cable shows, they had time to take them on, and Sally Field, who has been in the business for 50 years, followed up her five-year TV stint with a part in a blockbuster franchise (The Amazing Spider-Man) and the iconic role of Mary Todd Lincoln in Spielberg's Lincoln, a part that also secured her first Oscar nomination in almost thirty yearslong story short, it could be a great thing for Kate Beckinsale if her team found her a damangeshomelandscandalesque pilot script, preferably a cable one so she would have time for features, too. It would be high time to remind people that she IS an exceptionally talented actress with remarkable screen presence. But for that, she needs a great role first

I agree. I would say the lead in a series on the BBC might be a good move as it would be perceived as less of a step down from film. HBO would be great too, but it's doubtful that she could get a major role on an HBO series.
