Branagh's
Hamlet
as the Ghost. Speaking quietly, softly, whispering even, so unlike his usual over-the-top persona that I didn't recognize him and had to check the cast credits list to see who had given such a great performance, and my jaw literally dropped when I discovered it was Vultan! So the man can definitely act, and admirably so, but he just choses to overact instead (I guess most people here will be fans of his usual style, sorry but it's just not for me).
Any other "calm" Brian Blessed performances you can recommend?

I think he gives a very subdued performance in an episode of Tales of the Unexpected. His police inspector character speaks very calmly. Think the title was 'Lamb to the Slaughter'.
Thyme And Relative Dimensions In Spice

Thanks! I actually bought
I, Claudius
on DVD a while ago, but somewhat I didn't get around watching it yet. So much to do, and so little time.

I'd recommend the BBC series
I, Claudius
, in which he plays the Emperor Augustus. He gives a wonderful performance, and only shouts once during the entirety of his episodes (and only then because the character is VERY angry).

Thanks a lot for your answer! I actually have
Henry V
on DVD, but I have yet to watch it. Will also search for that
Blake's 7
episode.

In Branagh's Henry V as well he never raises his voice, which I was waiting for - he has a big part too as The Duke of Exeter (If I recall correctly). The main thing people remember the performance for is his 'armoured ultimatum' scene which is wonderfully dry menace -
Other than that I'm afraid the only one I can think of is a guest performance on an episode of Blakes 7 where he played a mad priest. And towards the end of that role he does get quite shouty but is quiet and sinister for most of it.
I suspect the problem is that you have too many paperclips up your nose
