Clancy is perfection as Clooney's gravelly-voiced, scar-faced Roman sidekick. We've seen this type in so many historical, and particularly biblical, films - Richard Burton's Roman nemesis in
The Robe
, played by Jeff Morrow, especially comes to mind. "Playing it straight" at the foot of the cross ironically made the scene authentic yet a little campy as well.
