Was I the only person who liked the character he played? I mean it's funny but every time I watch that movie, he plays an "evil" person, and yet there's something so genuinely likable about him. He protects our hero (brutally at times) throughout the film, even though sure, it's for his own gain
But aren't most human relationships like that? Someone gives your life a little meaning, a little purpose, a little whatever, and once they give you that, their enemies become your enemies too.

I hated his character. He murdered Tommy but he looked good in the uniform.

Not aloneI loved his character! He was one of those bad guys who is actually cool. I think the uniform really suited him and he pulled off the demeanor of a man you take seriously and did it well. I'm watching Pet Sematary II right now and I was cracking up at the dinner scene, if you watched that movie. He goes crazy in it and owns!
But yes, I agreein Shawshank, he did give Andy some meaning and I did think he was his friend during the rooftop scene. It was shame I thought when he was still the bad guy but it gave him some dimension if that's how you say it. He was the enemy bent on the power. Aka "Cool" in anyone's book hahah
