THE FLY. DEAD ZONE. DEAD RINGERS. A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE. And EASTERN PROMISES.
Top-notch thrillers, every one. (Well, DEAD RINGERS is more of a drama.) And all beautifully made. For all his gross-out moments, the guy is a true classicist. He's never guilty of ostentatious "directing."
He's having himself a very good career.

Those are his more mainstream ones. Just seeing the poster for Rabid gave me nightmares as a wee one.

I've never seen a movie of his that I didn't like, but A History Of Violence and Eastern Promises are my favorites.

Halloween came this year, and I was ready with a bunch of horror flicks. The Omen, Near Dark, An American Werewolf in London and a Half-dozen others. But the ones that move me the most, that get most directly to my aesthetic-emotional core are the Cronenbergs in my collection. Videodrome, Scanners, Dead Ringers. I've been a fan since I saw Shivers 40 years ago; he's a master we should all study.

The first time I watched Crash, I didn't care for it.
But over 15 years later, I found it to be very well crafted. I think it's one of Cronenberg's tightest movies. It's captivating in what it does. It's difficult to put into words how much I enjoyed it.
All it took was time. I guess I just wasn't ready for Cronenberg at 19.
Seize the moment, 'cause tomorrow you might be dead.
