Sad to see so few tributes to John Hurt from people. He barely trended on twitter for a few hours and so few celebs have posted tributes.
Obviously almost all of those who worked with him have, Mel Brooks, Stephen Fry etc. But among the celebs who didn't I've seen very few tributes. In fact so far among those who didn't its just Ben Stiller, Brian May and Lucy Lawless that I've seen pay tribute.
IMO that's an insult to the great man. I understand people hating this "lets show how much I care on twitter culture" and in some ways I agree.
Still to not do it for him and only him is a great insult. The celebs did it for all the rest, Alan Rickman, Carrie Fisher, Robin Williams and David Bowie. Just about every f^cking celeb couldn't wait to get their tweets in showing how grief stricken they were about those people's deaths.
Here however? Virtually not a thing.
Joss Whedon for instance never shuts up about how much he loves Alien, oh it was his favourite horror film, without Ripley there'd be no Buffy, blah, blah, blah, yet not a thing for John Hurt on his twitter page? Caitlin Moran who can never wait to eulogise a dead celeb, NOTHING on John Hurt. Colin Baker and Peter Davison meanwhile have said nothing. The guy was a former Doctor. Only 13 people have officially played that part yet the only other two conformed on twitter can't be bothered to pay tribute? Colin pays tribute to Christopher Lee and Alan Rickman but not to John Hurt?
Patrick Stewart WORKED with him in I Claudius yet nothing? Anthony Stewart Head worked with him in Merlin and there was NOTHING from him. That's the second biggest thing Anthony Head has ever done and John Hurt was a big part of it, yet nothing on the man's death? Annie Lennox used John Hurt's 1984 for part of a music video yet nothing for him?
I don't know considering they ALWAYS do it for every celeb this just feels like such a snub to a great man. F^ck em all. Too busy virtue signalling about Trump to post anything about John Hurt.
The history of vampires

As I said on another thread, it all comes down to the fact that how famous an actor is with the public or how much recognition he gets from colleagues has little connection to his actual talent as an actor.
If you're a celebrity engaging in self-promotion, you acknowledge the passing of other self-promoting celebrities and bask in their reflected glory. Because actors like John Hurt didn't make a spectacle of their personal lives or have the aff111cectations of stardom, there's no gain in publicity for many of the celebrities on your list to even acknowledge him.

Oh do shut up. Just because they aren't writing it all over doesn't mean nobody cares.

But does it mean anything to receive accolades from those that don't know who you were as a person? The sheer volume of praise is meaningless. Did Mr. Hurt work his craft to ensure the pews at his funeral would be filled with mourners?
The ONLY people whose opinion matters are those that knew him personally and loved him. Only they were privy to the real John Hurt and not the characters he create nor the face he put on in public.
I don't care if one or a thousand agree with me that Mr. Hurt was one of the greatest actors of his age. What I take away are the moments of joy, sadness, and awe that he imparted to me as I watched the films he appeared in. My hope is that he died satisfied with his work and loved by those closest to him.
As for me, I wida0ll miss his presence terribly. I'd have given a great deal to know him as a person, but I was never so lucky.
In space, no one can hear you scream. On IMDB, we can hear you but we just don't give a crap.

Always loved this man from when I saw him in A Man For All Seasons, Caligula in I, Claudius and Naked Civil Servant. What a voice!! He made quite an impression on me as John Merrick, the Elephant Man. The ending was so heart wrenching I still cry thinking about it. He wasn't a celebrity he was a talent. These celebrities who didn't honor him are just "celebs" and get younger every year.
