While he is best known for his film work - Mr. Hurt said that he chose roles based on the quality of the part and how much they were offering him.
He was not an acting snob and would happily work on television projects as well as in film.
Arguably his best work was on television productions - I CLAUDIUS and THE NAKED CIVIL SERVANT.
But I think his tragic Timothy Evans in the blood chilling and much underrated 10 RILLINGTON PLACE is his best screen work.
