I just watched Rebel, it's the first and only movie I've seen with Sal in it.
I understand that Hollywood was a bit conservative and racist in the 1950s.
I know Sal had an Italian background but his skin is pretty damn dark, he looks a lot more ethnic than the likes of Pacino, Sinatra, Danny Devito.
Would he have been considered white in Hollywood or would someone of his appearance face some discrimination.

very much so, Christi. I am 100% Sicilian,both parents are dark features on dad side and my mother side,grandparents etc.al.,
Sal was darker skin,with jet blk hair. I dye my hair since high school
blonde and wear also blond extensions at times etc., don't really care. But yea we ARE proudly sicilian, AND i know many of sicilian/italian's who do not say,"we are white.'some do.
SOME DON'T.
I say i am sicilian italian.
I like how Sal would always say that too in a few rare interviews i've seen and read about him, that my mother kept a very long time.
He was such a pretty boy(i agree on that Cchristi) with a world of talent inside of this wonderful man.I do love him. You don't have to literally have white skin to be white. White means of European background which is what Sal was.

He was Italian. Sicilian to be exact and I believe they have more color.
