John Gavin's imposing height and physique made Perkins look very vulnerable. Perkins looked taller when he was younger, but his height didn't stand out in his later movies.

I just find it facinating how much the standards in height has literally dropped for male actors. 6'2 -6'3 isn't short but there were plenty of actors at that time who were taller than Tony Perkins, even John Gavin was taller than him. These days the majority of tall actors would be maybe around 6', a handful being taller than that but the rest are all under 6'. Maybe back than a leading man being a head taller than the female actress looked more appealing, these days the movies try to make couples even height.

I read in an old ass article about him describing him as 6'2.5" so he probably looked around 6'3.

Mostly it gets rounded up to 6' 2". He might seem taller because he was so thin. His son Osgood is 6' 4".
