Since these boards will be gone in six days, I thought I would share some thoughts about one of my favorite actors. I haven't posted on IMDb in a good while, but I have always checked out the boards to see what others have to say about something.
To me, Mickey Rourke is the greatest or one of the greatest film actors to ever live. You can take Brando, McQueen, Dean, Newman, role them into one and you get Mickey, plus a little extra.
Beyond the regrets of what should or could've been, or what roles he could have done that slipped by, or all the surgeries that changed his appearance through the years, it doesn't change the fact that he is one of the greatest. It doesn't matter if it's a b or c-movie, he is always interesting and intriguing to watch. We all probably get irritated at what we perceive as self-destructive behavior and self-sabotage. But these are also aspects of his character that create that inner turmoil and fuel his performances into being the actor that we love. Aspects that overpowered him and took him off the path we wish he would've kept to during that long lost period. Specifically, the 90's into the 2000's, with perhaps the exception being Bullet, The Rainmaker, The Pledge and Sin City. But Mickey speaks to the lost in all of us. Like royalty in exile, right? And no matter the mistakes, Mickey has always been a noble soul. Even if he had never ventured into acting and become a carpenter or a junkie on the streets, I don't think it would change that fact.
But I'm thankful he became an actor and we will always have a handful of great movies and performances to look back on. That said, I hope there's another great movie and role to come.
Feel free to share some of your last thoughts too.
