I've watched this great William Wyler film many times and would like to hear other imdb users' opinions.
I think it's the best role Stamp ever played, but I'm open for any suggestions (just no SciFi or end of world kind of stuff like "Armageddon").

I saw The Collector for the first time a couple months ago. Terence Stamp really has this way with innocent characters who are slightly off kilter (or in this case, extremely off, lol).
"Can it be that they are mad themselves who call me mad?"

Hi TwinofKate and Leanne-kershaw1,
I'm glad that there are more people out there who appreciate this movie.
William Wyler directed some of my favorite films like "The Best Years of our Lives", "Friendly Persuasion", "The Children's Hour", "Mrs. Miniver""Ben-Hur", "The Desperate Hours" (Bogart), "Funny Girl", "How to steal a Million" (very cute!) and "Roman Holiday".
Wyler was very versatile, not stuck to just one movie genre like Budd Boetticher, Blake Edwards or John Ford.
I think that WW's idea to film this in the UK at Gabriels Manor in Kent made the film perfect.
This very old cellar (?) away from the old manor house added a lot to the suspense for me. If it would have been in some regular house, it would have resembled many other movies. So for me the location is one of the reasons why I enjoy watching it.

I agree that his performance was exceptional in film version of The Collector, so wonderful that I think other actors have tried channeling his performance here and there. As for his role, I would have to say Bernadette in Priscilla Queen of the Desert. He is a very convincing transexual, but also is able to use everything in his bag of tricks: comedy, physicality, drama, guru-like persona, action, and that voice.
