A shame True Detective ultimately sucked. The actors were its only reedeming feature. Loved all of them - Vince, Colin and Kitsch.

I get the impression that if Daniel Day Lewis had played the part the exact same as Vaughn everyone would be wetting their pants about his wonderful understated performance - many people had an opinion of Vaughn prior to the series as a terrible actor so anything less than a Brandoesque performance and they treat it like a Jar Jar Binks outtake.

I agree! His a really good actor in this dramatic role. Impressing! Just finished the final episode and I'm beaten! Depressed and impressed. Strong show and beautifully directed

I agree. For me, he was likeable and somewhat menacing in it. A respectable gangster if that's possible. The season was not great but everything he did in it was good to me.

I think this is accurate. I didn't see many films with him before, just one or two, because I don't watch comedies. I hardly knew him before TD in which to me seemed very solid.
What has happened to you happened to me with two relatively new and pretty unknown actors, but very well known as comedians: Luis CK and Bill Bur. I can't take any of them seriously in movies, but I think that's because I've watched them too many times in their stand-up comedies.

Yep, that's right. Everyone I've discussed the new season of TD with says the same thing. He's clearly the weak link in TD Season 2.

I like Vince Vaughn. But I'm a bit perplexed with his TD character. My take on his character is that he's intended to be menacing, but fair. But I guess I can't shake off seeing Wedding Crashers and old school.
The season is a bit different as all the characters seem to be handcuffed in their acting, but it could be the direction of the show so I can't lay the blame soley on Vaughn. The 4 main characters seem to be playing the same person.

What acting? The guy says every line with the same expression, in the same tone, with the same inflection, at the same volume. It's shocking that he still gets any work.

Are you being sarcastic? He's awful in True Detective so far. In fact, his bad acting is pretty much all people are talking about at this point in the series.

Yeah, I was thinking that also. He's better in serious roles than comedic. I kind of got tired of his comedies, he's the same in all of them. Good to see him do something different.
