was far better than other performances of that song. It was magical and touchingly human, mortal in its melancholic sense of disappointment about the world. Dahl was wrong. Wilder's Wonka was capable of much more darkness, if mainly psychological, than the book (or than Depp's). Scaring/testing the children with a pretend Slugworth, the Wonkatania, 'You LOSE! speech.
I hope that your heaven matches the one you created on earth. I fear that no-one can live up to the sincerity of Wilder's generation.

Everybody knows him for willy wonka or its a favorite or most noticeable character but for me my favorite movie he did was the adventures of sherlock holmes smarter brother, yes it wasn't as well known as willy wonka or young Frankenstein but this to me was one of his best roles

I'm so jealous. I have told my husband that I want a record player for Christmas. He thinks I'm crazy but that's all I want. I'll request the soundtrack to go along with it. I can't get a record player without a record.

My favorite line is the "We'll begin . . . with a spin . . . traveling in a world of my creation." Just something about it.
Willy Wonka is my favorite movie and I used to run home every afternoon after school in the fall of 2001 when I was in 7th grade and play my VHS tape of it. Then for Christmas that year I got the 30th anniversary DVD which I still have lol. Maybe I'll eventually get the Bluray. The movie was released when my mom was 12 and funnily enough, I fell in love with it 30 years later at age 12. I kind of think of it as my way of getting away from all the 9/11 drama and escaping into a happier place. Even though 9/11 didn't really affect me until recently, I was still aware of everything that went on and knew it was very bad.
I have the soundtrack on a newly rereleased vinyl (with the original sleeve) and I absolutely LOVE it. Saw it at Barnes & Noble and got it for my birthday 3 months ago.

I'm listening to it now on Spotify. Its truly a great song. I can't believe i just re-watched Willy Wonka on my DVR a few weeks ago. Can't believe he's dead.
I bet you're wondering what a place like this is doing in a girl like me-The Mummy

They re-released "Willy Wonka" on the big screen this past summer and I was fortunate enough to see it with friends. Somehow I must have known something about Gene Wilder's passing about to happen. He was a great actor.
