<p dir="auto">Ameche was handsome and talented but he was not faithful. He admitted [coyly] that he "slipped" a couple of times during his marriage. Ameche was also separated from his wife beginning in 1968 and that he had a mistress. He admitted it but downplayed it.<br />
Ameche was also distant from his children at this time, although they would reconcile before he died.<br />
Ameche was one of those people who put their religious beliefs ahead of his family and probably still thought he was righteous. He was a generous man in a lot of ways and was a marvellous screen presence, but this idea that he was this "nice guy" and faithful husband is very inaccurate.</p>
