Jims first credit / appearance was in 1948 (A-Lad-in His Lamp) for the voice of a genie. His last credit was in 1990, the year after he died, also for the voice of a genie. Maybe just a strange coincidence

Well, if Jim's first and most recent credits are about magic lanterns, then it must be true what another Jim, Croce, says, "You Don't Mess Around with Jim," and so, apparently, you "do not rub him the wrong way."
Anyway, Jim Backus was certainly one great and bright entertainer, and a lamp unto the industry.
If Sheridan were here, he'd be appalled.

If i remember correctly, Shortly after "Godspell" and "J5b4esus Christ Superstar" came out, a conservative religious group produced a Biblical musical to counteract the bad message of the previous two musicals, and Jim Backus voiced God. The turkey was about 3 hours long and probably only played on a few religious radio stations. It's not mentionelists on this site. Does anyone remember this, or am I mistaken?

Then perhaps you knew his brother who was a history professor at the University of California at Santa Barbara. (I took a class from 'Professor Backus" and he sounded just like his brother. Imagine a professor who sounded like Mr Magoo!
How neat! Did your professor talk of his famous brother at all or relay any unique anecdotes of him?
Please excuse typos/funny wording; I use speech-recognition that doesn't always recognize!

Good for you
To the first poster: I just thought about it yesterday. (And I only read your comment today for the first time.) I told my brother, and he couldn't remember what the genie's voice sounded like.
I'm a big Gilligan's Island fan, and I looked up that cartoon and lo and behold I was right!!!!
