At about the time Mr. Backus was appearing on Gilligans Island, there was an animated series titled The Famous Adventures of Mr. Magoo, starring, obviously, the voice of Jim Backus. Gilligan was on CBS, while Mr. Magoo was on NBC.
Now, does anybody else remember this? They were on opposite each other! This has to be the only time in television history when an actor competed against himself for viewers. A win-win (or is it lose-lose?) situation.
Kodak makes films, Hollywood makes MOVIES!

Did not know, either, that the two series competed with each other during their original runs, but Jim Backus is great in both of them, as usual.
Also heard of other stars who were on multiple simultaneous series, such as Arthur Godfrey and Nancy Walker, but not sure whether or not they were in competing time-slots with one another on differing networks.

I remember it well. The "Famous Adventures" lasted just one season & featured Magoo in adaptions of classis stories, done straight and without the near-sighted stuff, like the Christmas Carol. "Gilligan" ran for two seasons after that (on Mondays, IIRC)

Doesn't each series have to be sold to a network? Since he played parts in each of these, I can see how this could happen.
