I was watching Quantum Leap on Netflix and on one of the episodes, the character Sam plays the John Lennon song ""Imagine", stating that it was his favorite song. Of all the songs he could have sang and with creative choice he probably had, was he trying to make statement?

Kevin, thank you for this. I am totally a The Secret kind of person - Universal Energy, Civilized Behavior. I know Scott is not into the "Guy with a white beard on a cloud" kind of thing. I wonder if people are confusing Sam Beckett with Scott Bakula? They are not one in the same. Scott's such a tremendously good-hearted person in general that the things that may go on in his mind about spirituality must be good things.

Scott starts at about 1:30
My friend took me to this "Agape Spiritual Center" in Culver City once where this Michael Bernard Beckwith guy they're all about was talking. I don't know if it has anything to do with The Secret. I know the precise theology or beliefs or what5b4ever. I only went once. There was a lot of music, then Beckwith came on and said some nice nondenominational stuff about positiveness and God being inside everyone and the universe and stuff. Seemed very New Age, happy, not really dogmatic. If I asked my friend she'd probably be the "I'm spiritual but I'm not religious?" type. The whole Agape/Michael Bernard Beckwith thing is definitely not atheistic, though I'm still not sure I understand their conception of God. Nor do I know what Scott Bakula believes, but he is in that video, speaking highly of Beckwith and his ministry.

To the dude who asked for more proof: do a search on You Tube. There are a few videos of Scott himself talking about The Secret and his beliefs. Interesting that people don't take the word of a first hand witness.
Also, some seemed to be confused with Scott the actor and the character he is portraying or has portrayed. Different guys. This is called acting.
: )
PS: Sorry to Celluliod or Celulitis who asked for more proof. I tried to respond directly to that post, but IMDB disappeared the post when I logged in.

I have never heard Mr. Bakula give an opinion on religion, but Sam Beckett stated several times that he thought a diety was "Leaping" him around in time and space, putting right, etc. So clearly he believed in a God. And as someone mentioned, Capt. Archer stated that he had "an open mind".
I hope that helps.

Because none of the pioneers of modern science have been theists have they? Do your research.
Perhaps you should do some research. For example, William of Ockham (Occam's Razor) and Roger Bacon were both major pioneers of science and Franciscan friars. Gregor Mendel (genetics) was an Augustinian friar. Also, philosopher St. Thomas Aquinas, who has supplied much of the theory for modern logic (on which a great deal of the scientific method is based) was a Dominican friar. Astronomer Johannes Kepler used his discoveries to "prove" the existence of God and was also a professional astrologer.
There are many other examples, but I think the above suffice to disprove your claim.

None that have been practicing with any regularity. Before you start spouting off this and that go do some research and you will note that they were only xyz religion for the sake of xyz they didn't attend or do anything that would make you think they were TRULY religious. Understand that even as little as 50 years ago people who were non believers were severely shunned/looked down upon etc. Many brilliant minds of the past weren't religious due to a love of the lord but due to a fear of being outcast. That said I don't understand how people can believe in a "god" after reading the holy books that mention all the tripe they do and yet ignore rape pedophiles and whatnot.

Your logic is hilariously awful. You can't prove something doesn't exist. I believe in the flying spaghetti monster. Ok now prove it doesn't exist waiting. You can't. See how bad your logic is? If you believe in god then the burden of proof is on YOU to prove he exists. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Wacky. If you're arguing that I copied and pasted anything in my post a year ago, I did no such thing. They were all my words, but you probably just mean that others make similar arguments. And of course they do.
For my analogy, if it helps you, you are welcome to put these flying purple unicorns outside of our solar system or even outside of our universe, and my argument is exactly the same. Again, my point was, without a shred of evidence, I personally find no reason to even consider the possibility. That is all.

"That's like saying it takes faith in order for you to not believe in flying purple unicorns, since you cannot disprove their existence.
We don't believe in gods because of a complete and total lack of evidence. It's not a leap of faith. It's not a conclusion we come to. It's not a giant mystery where we take sides on the issue. Atheism isn't the answer to a question. "
That's complete nonsense and just illustrates your complete lack of understanding when it comes to philosophical issues.
Firstly, if my memory serves me correctly "flying purple unicorns" would exist in our world/time/space and therefore we would be able to observe them. A god or diety from the Religions that I have studied personally would exist outwith/beyond our time and space and therefore would not be directly observable by us.
I can see that you, like many other Atheist's adopt the arrogant self deluding stance of some form of intelle2000ctual snobbery. All the time being so blinded by your arrogance you fail to see how irrational and illogical many of the arguements you present agaist theism are.
Oh and no, I'm not a Christian/Muslim/Jew or any or kind of theist, I simply recognise the arrogance and irrational copy and paste arguements parroted over and over by keyboard warrior atheists.

I see nothing wrong in basing the belief that flying purple unicorns don't exist on the absence of evidence that they do exist. It's just a fact that some things can't be proven one way or the other and that one has to form one's beliefs on faith in the absence of facts one way or the other.
