She did not surpass Bette Davis. Their roles are completely different and 2000complementary and worked beautifully together and off of one another. It's a bit strange to compare them directly like that.

AAE aside, there should be no question as to who's the more beautiful. Watching "My Wife's Best Friend" now. Anne Baxter is gorgeous.

How can you compare them? The characters are very different from each other and so are the actresses. Baxter was able to shine as she did in part because she had Davis to bounce off of. If the original actress intended for Margot, Claudette Colbert, had made the movie, she would have been closer in type and style to Baxter and the contrast wouldn't have been as interesting. Davis and Baxter both turned in brilliant performances.
