Plus he was getting old and flabby and losing his looks. He was glad to get someone of her caliber who had an interest in marrying him, having his children, AND putting up with any diseases he'd bring home from his escapades. That's wife material.

Totally agree with all that. It's actually a compliment to Annette that he chose her~ And it's not like he's the only man that likes women.

It's not like she found out AFTER they got married
She knew of his past and she can take credit for being the only
woman he felt secure about enough to marry and to start a family
with. He was ready to marry and start a family back in the early
seventies, but Julie Christie did not want to put (more) children
on this planet, and that was one of the reasons why that relationship
would not last.
He had been looking for a spouse and mother for his future children
since his late twenties. It took him almost thirty years before in
Annette he found what he'd been looking for. She always wanted to
be a mother, too, so despite the age difference, it was a natural match.
