She gives an incredible performance in both, but which one do you prefer?
I have to give the edge to American Beauty, where she absolutely nails it. It's also one of my most perfect films of all time.

American Beauty without a doubt. She was stellar. As a matter of fact, out of her 3 other nominations, I thought American Beauty was the only one worthy of one. I would have rather seen her nominated for Mother and Child then The Kids are Alright.

American Beauty. I hated her character in the Kids are All Right. She just dropped her vb68oice and was really mean for the role. American Beauty was definitely more nuanced.

American Beauty is one of the best movies of all time, IMO. I
loved
The Kids Are All Right but it's tough for any film to compete with American Beauty. Props to Bening for choosing two great projects though. She doesn't always pick the best films to work on, but when she does, it's a hit right out of the park.

The Kids Are All Right wasn't a disaster
at all
. In truth, it was my favorite movie this year. Highly recommend.

AS good as Annette was in American Beauty, Hillary Swank was pretty much solid in her role in Boys Dont Cry deserved her oscar for that, as for Million Dollar Baby I dont know. But either way give this woman her award already.

American Beauty is a far better movie and her role in it was perfect. She should have won that year. It's hard to be both funny, crazy, and tragic all in the same movie.
