LOOKING AT HOLLYWOOD
Richard Beymer is smart. When he finishes "Celebration," he's giving up his house here, selling his car, and hopping to New York to study acting for three weeks before starting "A Promise at Dawn," with Ingrid Bergman. "Playing opposite Bergman is a wonderful opportunity, and I intend to be prepared," Dick said. When they start filming in England, he'll be across the channel from Sharon Tate, daughter of an army officer he dated while doing "The Longest Day." As far as his romance with the French actress, Dany Saval, Beymer says it's washed, scrubbed, and clean. "She wasn't about to leave Parisand my career is here."

I think Anthony Perkins ultimately got that part. "Goodbye Again."

Cool news article! I've never heard of him doing a film with Ingrid BergmanI guess it never happened. Too bad. That would've been delightful to see! Bergman was a fantastic actress and in spite of what the critics' view of Beymer's acting was, I always thought he was a talented actor who could have gone further with more experience.
I was bored and a little interested in what this project was about and surprise, surprise! I actually found info about it. It was canceled for Bergman and Beymer, but apparently was done in 1971 by a French director, with the actress Melina Mercouri:
It was based on a book, a 1960 memoir, written by Romain Gary.
