I've just finished watching all 27 episodes on dvd. In the very last one the title character says "I've had it!" and that was the last line in the series. Does anyone know if JOHNNY STACCATO was cancelled because of low ratings or was it because John Cassavetes had enough of the show?

Yes, I got the impression he wanted to have a break from acting and try his hand at directing a feature film. He also directed several episodes of JOHNNY STACCATO.

John just wanted out and was said to have acted 'badly' in the last few episodes on purpose to get out of the contract.
