I don't know where you people are getting this idea that you can't be sexually attracted to someone at an early age without having been sexually abused. Just because you weren't aware of your feelings at that age don't assume someone else wasn't. As for the lesbian/straight side of it it's basically irrelevant because attraction is attraction plain and simple and we are born with the ability to be attracted to whomever we are attracted to male or female. I was in first grade when I developed a crush on a high school girl and for the record I'm male and I wasn't sexually abused so get over your preconceived notions of the world because not everything in the human experience will fit into whatever tiny box you have yourself trapped in.

My Girl was the first film I ever saw in the cinema, aged 5/6. I also developed my first crush. I am male, though.

I started wanking off in third grade after accidentally discovering it. I had no idea there was a word for it or that I wasn't the only person in the world who did it. A year later in 4th grade we had sex-ed class and I was amazed to find out what I did had a name and everyone else did it too. No I was not abused. My point is that kids discover themselves over time, it isn't like a switch gets flipped one random day. Its a long-term process and journey.

Good point, though I think the OP meant 'lesbian' at that point to highlight she was a girl feeling very attracted to another girl, as opposed to a boy; initially (as she describes) there is fascination and personality-based attraction, but no mention of a sexual component. And now she is viewing that past time through the lens of a later discovery regarding her sexuality (once she had matured).

Well, I don't think most young female friends would refer to it as a "lesbian attraction" if that element wasn't there.

Where did she say 'sexual'? The mature sexual urges and sexual attraction don't just turn up without any precursor at puberty; like more physical aspects of humans, those aspects of us exists prior to puberty in a more innocent, less developed and less complex form.
Many little boys or girls develop quite a fascination with a friend of the opposite sex as children; if that can happen with children who grow to be heterosexual, then I guess it's possible for it to happen to children who grow up to be homosexual.
But to label an attraction that BECOMES sexual in nature later on as sexual in its earlier form is like calling an egg an eagle.

Were you sexually abused? Children who were sexually abused tend to have early sexual urges.
