Probably one of the best aspects of the Bond series; she added more to the Bond mythology than some of the Bond actors themselves. Very sad and courageous for her to step down due to her health. She will be missed.

Clarification: She didn't step down for health reasonsthe producers (Broccoli and Wilson) approved her "M" being written out of the franchise. There are numerous articles to support this.
As for Dame Judi's healthshe is currently on stage in the West End (Thruough May, 2013), in the role of Alice Liddell Hargreaves"Peter and A5b4lice", with Ben Whishaw. There's also talk of a sequel to "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel".
